Resistance Bands Can Be Dangerous

Resistance bands have gain popularity over the years as they are effective, inexpensive, and easy to use. As great as resistance bands are they do pose hazards, as all fitness equipment does, when not to treated and used properly. 

When resistance bands are not treated or used properly the bands can break or snap if you let it go while the band is under tension. 

Safety Tips and Precautions

  • Do not use if you are allergic to latex.
  • Avoid exercises that involves the bands to stretch in a way that it may snap towards your face, or use protective eye wear.
  • Resistance bands can break down over time due to normal wear and tear from use. It is important to inspect resistance bands frequently to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
  • Inspect bands and handles before every use. Check for cuts, nicks, scratches, cracks, punctures, discolouration, or anything that looks like it may cause the band to break.
  • If any flaws are discovered discard the band immediately and never attempt to repair a damaged band.
  • When using the anchor, ensure that the resistance bands are securely anchored to a sturdy object or attachment before using.
  • Never over stretch the bands more than 3 times their length.
  • Never release a resistance band while under tension. A release under tension can cause the band to snap back toward the user and result in significant injury.
  • Begin all exercises slowly to ensure band strength.
  • Avoid jerking the band.
  • Resistance bands are not toys and should never be used for any activity other than the specific exercises they were designed for.

Storage and Care of Resistance Bands

Resistance bands can be a great and inexpensive exercise tool, but as with any piece of fitness equipment, proper maintenance is a critical aspect to ensure safe and proper function.

  • Clean bands by wiping with a damp cloth only. Do not use cleaning products as it can deteriorate the strength of the band.
  • Keep stored bands away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

Resistance Band Use

  • Your resistance bands come in 5 different resistance levels, noted by different colours as well as displayed on each band.
  • You can use any or all bands at one time during your workouts.
  • attach one end of the band(s) to the foam handles or ankle straps.
  • The door anchor will attach anywhere on a standard door.
  • Make sure the door is securely closed before performing any exercise.

  • The door anchor will attach anywhere on a standard door.
  • To use it, close the door with the thick part on the other side of the door and the other side of the loop sticking out on the other side.
  • Your door frame needs enough clearance to be able to close the door with the loop squished in between the door and frame. Not all doors have that option. Interior doors are usually more suitable than exterior doors.
  • The good part of door anchors is that they are very adjustable. You can put them anywhere you want, even at the top and bottom if the gap allows.
  • There is very little preparation required, just hold it at the preferred height and close the door.

Equipment Inspection:  I understand and acknowledge that exercise equipment and resistance bands may snap and attachments may break.  I hereby acknowledge to inspect all equipment including but not limited to all exercise equipment, resistance bands, attachments, hooks, handles, straps and anchors.  I will discontinue use immediately should I find a defect.  I also acknowledge that not using the equipment properly can and will result in damage and bodily injury. 

Benefits:  Participation in a regular program of physical activity has been shown to produce positive changes in a number of ways.  These changes include increased work capacity, improved cardiovascular efficiency, improved mental and emotional state of being, and increased muscular strength, flexibility, power and endurance.

Risks:  I recognize that exercise carries some risk to the musculoskeletal system (sprains, strains) and the cardiorespiratory system (dizziness, discomfort in breathing, heart attack).  I hereby certify that I know of no medical problem that would increase my risk of illness and injury as a result of participation in a regular exercise program.

Warning: My Fitness Bands are made with high quality materials. All products have the potential for damage or premature wear. Serious or fatal injury can occur. Exercise programs of any kind can present danger to the participant at any time. Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program. My Fitness Bands equipment is intended to be used with correct form. Anyone under the age of 18 should be supervised by an adult.  Always read warnings and instructions before use. Use proper techniques and common sense when exercising. Check equipment thoroughly before each workout for any signs of damage or defects; discontinue use immediately if any is found.

Informed consent:  I understand and am aware that strength, flexibility, and aerobic exercise, including use of equipment is a potentially hazardous activity.  I also understand that fitness activities involve a risk of injury and even death, and that I am voluntarily participating in these activities and using equipment with knowledge of the dangers involved.  I hereby agree to expressly assume and accept any and all risks of injury or death.  I do hereby further declare myself to be physically sound and suffering from no condition, impairment, disease, infirmity, or other illness that would prevent my participation in an exercise/fitness activity or in the use of exercise equipment.  I acknowledge that I have either had a physical examination and been given my physician’s permission to participate, or that I have decided to participate in activity and use of equipment that without the approval of my physician and do hereby assume all responsibility for any participation and activities, and utilization of equipment in my activities.
